3M SHIB followers? Are they bots?

Not every hodler should be a follower, but every follower, at least for the most part, should be a hodler.

SHIB has 3.4 million followers on Twitter, then how come there are only around 1.2 million hodlers at the moment? Just who are the other 2.2 million people, and why did they follow ShibArmy on Twitter, yet chose not to own a single token?

For comparison’s sake, another “meme coin” and subsequently SHIB’s sworn rival - Dogecoin (DOGE) is currently on par with the former in terms of their follower count, having around 3.4M followers on Twitter and some 4,2M active addresses. To put it simply, for every one hodler DOGE has, there’s one follower on Twitter. Or 0.8 followers, to be exact.

Look, those hodling and those following the token on social media don't have to perfectly overlap, we get it. Not every crypto nut should necessarily be a social media addict, so there should always be room for some imbalance, if you will. But that imbalance is just too big in the case of Shiba Inu. 

Can you in all seriousness imagine someone who’s not holding Bitcoin to take an active interest in Bitcoin-related social media groups, liking their posts, leaving comments and all that stuff?

We may have an explanation to this dilemma. This isn’t 100% proof, but a good chunk of those 3.4 million SHIB followers may actually be fake.

Yep, Twitter always had problems with bots. According to an analysis by SparkToro and Followerwonk, up to 20% of all Twitter accounts may be fake. We’re not here to discuss the why and how of it, we’re just pointing out the fact that may or may not correlate with the data back up the page a short ways.

Here’s hoping we’re wrong.  Because if it proves true, then it’s a sad state of things. In our opinion, Shiba Inu deserves better than hundreds of thousands of phony accounts with no real people behind them.
